From Implant Fundamentals to Advanced Surgical Management
Course Summary
This course provides a practical, clinically focused overview of implant treatment, progressing from foundational principles to the management of more advanced surgical cases. Topics will include implant treatment planning and placement, surgical considerations for anterior implants, management of hard- and soft-tissue deficiencies, and predictable approaches to maxillary sinus augmentation. Clinical cases will be used throughout the presentation to demonstrate how anatomical and restorative factors influence surgical decision-making.
Learning Objectives
At the conclusion of this course, participants should be able to:
1. Identify the key diagnostic and treatment-planning factors that influence successful implant therapy.
2. Apply fundamental surgical principles to achieve predictable implant positioning and long-term outcomes.
3. Evaluate the esthetic and anatomical considerations involved in anterior implant placement.
4. Recognize common complications associated with implant surgery and develop strategies for their prevention and management.
5. Assess the available bone and sinus anatomy to select an appropriate approach for maxillary sinus augmentation.
Speaker Bio
Dr. Shi Yin is a board-certified periodontist and implant surgeon. She completed her specialty training in periodontics at Columbia University, followed by an advanced implant fellowship at Loma Linda University. After completing her fellowship, she joined the Department of Advanced Specialty Education in Periodontics at Loma Linda University as an assistant professor. She currently practices in Washington State and is actively involved in the Academy of Osseointegration and the American Academy of Periodontology. Her clinical and research interests include immediate implant placement, esthetic implant therapy, hard- and soft-tissue augmentation, and maxillary sinus grafting.
