Responsibilities and Requirements of Prescribing Schedule II Opioids Training Course

Speaker Biography:
Dr. Yun is a board-certified anesthesiologist who specializes in dental office anesthesia. He obtained his M.D. with honors from the University of Southern California and completed his post-graduate training at the UCLA Center for Health Sciences. He is a Clinical Professor at the Western University of Health Sciences, and an Expert Consultant and Examiner for the Dental Board of California. He is also a Safety Inspector for the American Association for the Accreditation of Ambulatory Surgical Facilities (AAAASF).
Course Summary:
This course fulfills the mandatory Dental Board of California CE requirement that all dentists must complete to renew their license. This course will discuss how dentists and oral surgeons can help combat the opioid epidemic in our communities, and how to responsibly prescribe opioids when necessary.
Learning Objectives:
- Discuss non-opioid strategies for Pain Management in Dentistry
- Review the scientific data that demonstrates the superiority of NSAIDS +/- acetaminophen for dental pain
- Review non-opioid alternatives such as ketorolac, Exparel, and steroids
- Discuss the Regulatory Requirements for Prescribers and Dispensers
- Review basic principles regarding opioid prescribing, including screening and the use of CURES
- Discuss Dental Office Procedures for Managing Vulnerable or Substance Use Disorder Patients
